Intro to Hiking: Bass Ponds
July 8, 5:30-7pm
Want to enjoy an evening of free summer hiking but don't know where to start? Well, look no further - the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge has got you covered. Meet us at the Bass Ponds trailhead for a stroll along our Hogback Ridge trail. Surrounded by stocked ponds and a flowing trout stream, a guided hike with refuge staff is the perfect excuse to start your hiking journey.
No experience necessary! We'll help you learn the basics of hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Registration is optional. -
Story Stroll
July 9 and 10 and 11 and 12, 10:00am-5:00pm
Come enjoy stories of nature in summer and reading outdoors! Everyone is invited to take a stroll along the edge of the prairie while following the pages of a children's storybook. All ages are welcome. More books are available inside the visitor center to read.

Birdwatching Trek: Louisville Swamp
July 12, 8:00-10:30am
Join refuge naturalist Craig Mandel for a bird walk to learn about the birds that we find on the refuge. Learn about the different types of habitats at the refuge that support over 100 species of birds, many of which migrate through and nest on the refuge during certain times of the year. No experience needed, this program is intended for those interested in birding regardless of experience level. Registration required.

Nature Discovery Day: Art in Nature

Find new and unique ways to connect with nature through creating your very own take home nature journal! Drop in anytime at the Old Cedar Avenue pavilion to create your own nature journal. No experience needed. This program is for all ages and complimentary snacks will be provided by the Minnesota Valley Refuge Friends. This is a drop-in event.
